We Prepare Your Dream Trip Tailor-Made All Over Brazil

Itacaré
Hidden in a special spot, between Salvador and Ilheus, in a corner of a land between the Atlantic Ocean and Rio de Contas, small Itacare is a different city in beauty, culture, geography and philso-phy, an unusual city, marked by its dazzling sunset, the movement of the sailing rafts and the tradition of the capoeira. Its beaches are so special that they don't even appear on maps, replete with coconut palm trees and green waters. Deserted, with clear sand, they are an invitation for a sun bath and a dive every minute. The city has such particular people and customs that the visitor can be surprised thinking that he is in another period or another country. The Mata Atlantica (Atlantic Forest) in Itacare has been reasonably preserved, producing a microclimate in the region, responsible for cool nights. And, in addition, trails, waterfalls and visits to the mangrove swamp full of guaiamus and blue and red crabs. Recently the earth road leading from Ilheus to Itacaré was transformed into a park road, increasing still more the value of that paradise. Thus, those 70 kilometres of snow-white sand, with secret and untouched beaches, rivers, coconut palm trees and forests may remain as it is. Because Itacaré is not keen at all for arrival of the progress.

  Included hikes
Prainha and Resende - Tiririca - Costa - Ribeira Beaches
From Itacare we leave for the Ribeira beach. Near the streamlet and the pool begins the trail trough the Atlantic forest. We walk along that trail for about 1 hour. During our walk we pass a waterfall and a big coconut palm grove. After the crossing of a streamlet, we reach the Prainha, adorned with many coconut palms. Thereafter the Resende beach, deserted, with coconut palms. From its end, crossing stones, we arrive at the Tiririca beach. Strong waves, the beach for the surfers and excellent for diving. Here we suggest to have our lunch at the tends near the sea-shore. Afterwards we continue our walk along the beach until we reach the Costa beach. Deserted, coconut palms. Crossing the beach we arrive at Ribeira beach.

Trip by canoe to the Cleandro Waterfall
After breakfast we walk to the Concha beach where the Contas river meets the sea. We take a canoe with oacs and go to the Contas river, its shores are involved by a beautiful scenery. The canoe penetrates silently the branches of the river and enables us to listen to the humming of numerous birds. We pan mangrove swamps, inhabited by guaia muns, blue and red crabs...farther on bromelia gardens within the atlantic forest. We land and arrive at the Cleandro farm, where cacao, carnation and oil palms plantation are still resisting. From there we walk to the waterfall, where the clear and cold water falls down in three waterfalls and form - in the middle of the Atlantic forest - a delicious natural pool, inviting us to have a bath. The water tumbles down with all its power, a real natural shower, which relaxes and recharges the energies. After having made good use of the waterfall, we return with the canoe until we reach the point of departure.

Hawaizinho beach - Tijuipe waterfall
We leave by car the pousada (hotel) until we get to the beginning of the trail. We walk about 25 minutes along the trail of the Atlantic forest. The Engenhoca and the Hawaizinho beaches are outstanding, on account of their deserted beaches with coconut palms and big waves. Of course, such beaches have already been discovered by the surfers. To complete the scenery, a clear water river disembogues into the stormy sea. The next attraction is the Tijuipe waterfall, which has a height of 4 Mts., a large and natural crystal clear and deep pool, suited for dives.

Jeribuacu beach - waterfall
We walk for about 1 hour downwards along a narrow deactivated path, until we reach a completely deserted beach, perhaps the most beautiful of the region. There disembogues the crystal clear Jeribuacu river. On our return, we are now going upwards and this effort is right away rewarded by a reinvigorating bath in the Jeribuacu waterfall, which offers us natural showers and a delicious well.

  Optional hikes
We are also suggesting the following trips
Itacarezinho
After breakfast you leave by car and in half an hour you are at the Itacarezinho beach. The visual is dazzling. On your right extends a beautiful beach, virgin, completely bordered by coconut palms. There live only a few fishermen. Here and there a jangada or sailing raft, whose owner lives behind the vegetation line. We turn left and walk to its end. A sweet water spring flows from the hill. Big rocky blocks adorn the place. Climbing those blocks you arrive quickly on their top, and from there you observe, below, a fissure which extends between two rocky walls, from above until below. The walls end in the sand. And the fissure, below, turns into sand and then sea water. It is like a canyon, with the difference that the river here is substituted by the sea. Behind there is a small grotto. In front of us, towards the ocean, the rocks formed a marine pool, inhabited by fishes. The water reaches our knees. This place offers some shadow, provided by the coconut palms. Another interesting item. With high tide, the above rock forms several small pools, inhabited by fishes.

Rafting in the Contas River
Taboquinhas - a small town, about 30 km from Itacare. Prosperous during the cacao period, it decayed when the Vassoura de Bruxa calamity appeared. But even so it maintains its old houses, narrow streets, slopes and the sympathy and simplicity of the population. The meeting for the rafting is on the church square, in the center of the town. From here we go by truck to the entrance of the river, about 3 km above the town. The river is big and majestic and flows voluminously in a width of 100 meters. After the distribution of the equipment and some training on the shore, we enter the river, completing our training in the first 200 meters of calm water. Everything is ready for the big Rafting - the first "corredeira", the Carrossel, requires precise evolutions, while confronting great waves, It is time to celebrate the first challenge. The water's temperature is always agreeable, with a swimming vest. After a short calmness, we see the stream of the next "corredeira", the "Fumo" jump. This one is first class and requires a stop, so that we may descend (walking) along the shore of the river. After the "Fumo" begins the canyon of the Contas river, which entrance is formed by a gorge, and where all the river's water is being funneled to a mere width of 3 meters. Total adrenaline, this passage will be mastered by first class and daring swimmers, the others by-pass along the rocks of the shore.
The canyon is a spectacle apart. With walls which reach height between 4 and 8 meters, it forms big shafts and narrow passages, which offer a fantastic view. Right in the middle is the "Pulo" rock, which invites us for a jump in the calmer part of the canyon. The "corredor" is a thrilling and long "corredeira" (class IV) followed by several smaller "coredeiras". The end of the canyon promises one of the biggest emotions, the 2 meters high "pancada" jump. The conclusion of this adventure can be celebrated in a small restaurant in the center of the town or to quench our thirst with coconut water, when we arrive at the beach.

"Rapel"at the Noré waterfall in Taboquinhas
The Coiudo river disembogues into the Contas river near the center of Taboquinhas. At about 100 meters from the estuary it forms the beautiful Noré waterfall, whose height is 15 meters. In order to arrive at the waterfall we have to cross the Contas river either by canoe or by motorboat and walk for 15 minutes within cocoa plantations. After the distribution of the equipment and training, we begin descending the positive part of the waterfall, while the guide at our side is taking care of us. Beginning the descent in the vertical position, the guide gives the last instructions and the "Rapelista" descends the next 9 meters under water. This "Rapel" is very secure and pleases the beginners as well as the experts. The Ativa employs only professional guides and first class equipment. As the Noré waterfall is in the same region as the Rafting in the Contas river, it would be favorable to join the two activities.
